Achievements in 2018
- More than 120 prizes won by different students of Academy in various Open and Age Group competitions organized at various places in Thane District, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas.
- Master Jenil Shah enhanced his Elo Rating in “3rd IIFL International Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2017-18”. The tournament was organized by Indian Chess School and conducted by Mumbai Subarban District Chess Association, between 30th December 2017 to 7th January 2018 at Mount Litera International School, BKC Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai. Jenil enhanced his rating from 1721 to 1748 (27 points). Around 300 players from different countries participated in this event. Total cash prize for this tournament was Rupees 12,00,000/-.
- National Instructor Mr. Rahul Joshi (Senior Trainer of the academy) enhanced his Elo Rating in “1st Ankit Sakshi Memorial Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2018”. The tournament was organized by Ankit Sakshi Bhargava Smriti Sansthan, Jaipur, Rajasthan, between 29th January to 2nd February 2018 at Maharishi Bhrigu Sadan, Tilak Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Mr. Rahul Joshi enhanced his rating from 1147 to 1202 (55 points). Around 400 players from different states participated in this event. Total cash prize for this tournament was Rupees 5,00,000/-.
- Master Aashay Kher achieved international rating in “1st Dombivali Kalyan Open International FIDE Rating Classical Chess Tournament 2018”. The tournament was organized by Atharva Chess Academy in association with Anant Vaze Sangeet Kala and Krida Pratishthan and conducted by Thane District Chess Association, between 30th January to 4th February 2018 at Kalyan Sports Club, Wadhva Complex, Aadharwadi Road, Kalyan (West), Thane. Around 250 players from different states participated in this event. Total cash prize for this tournament was Rupees 6,00,000/-
- Master Jenil Shah secured 1st rank in “One Day Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2018”. The tournament was organized by Maharashtra Navanirman Vidyarthi Sena and conducted by Thane District Chess Association, on 11th March 2018 (Sunday) at K.B.P. Degree College, Rd. No. 16, Wagle Estate, Thane (West). Jenil was rewarded with a cash prize of rupees 5,555/-. He scored 6.5 points out of 7 games (6 wins & 1 draw). Master Ishaan Tendolkar secured 1st rank in under 9 years age group category in the same tournament. He was rewarded with a trophy. Around 120 players from Thane District, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas participated in this event.
- Master Bhavesh Karnik secured 3rd rank in “One Day Open Rapid Chess Tournament”. The tournament was organized by Jchess Developers and conducted by Thane District Chess Association, on 25th March 2018 (Sunday) at Mandli Talab, Mira Bhayandar Mahanagar Palika Hall, Bhayandar, Thane. Bhavesh was rewarded with a cash prize of rupees 2,000/-.He scored 6 points out of 7 games (5 wins & 2 draws). Master Laukik Pangshe secured a special prize of “Best Thane Player” in the same tournament. Laukik was rewarded with a trophy.He scored 4.5 points out of 7 games. Around 170 players from Thane District, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas participated in this event..
- Master Mayuresh Barve secured 20th rank in “2nd Edition of Let’s Chess 2018 – The Open Rapid Chess Tournament”. The tournament was organized by Seawoods Malayali Samajam and conducted by Thane District Chess Association, on 14th April 2018 (Sunday) at Executive A/C Hall, Konkan Rail Vihar, Sector 40, Seawoods (W), Navi Mumbai - 400706. Mayuresh was rewarded with a cash prize of rupees 500/-.He scored 6 points out of 8 games (6 wins, 2 losses). Around 200 players from Thane District, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas participated in this event.
- “1st ARMS International FIDE Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2018” was successfully organized by Joshi’s Chess Academy, in association with Kalyan Taluka Buddhibal Sanstha, and conducted by Thane District Chess Association, on 21st & 22nd April 2018 (Saturday & Sunday) at Metro Junction Mall, Kalyan (E). Around 450 players from different states participated in this event, which include Grand Master Abhimanyu Puranik, International Master Nubairshah Shaikh, International Master Sameer Kathmale, International Master Abhishek Kelkar, FIDE Master Srinath Rao S.V. and Chinmay Kulkarni. The main attraction was that top 20 boards were DGT boards, which gave an easy access to all chess lovers to watch the game online. In addition to this LED screen was installed in the area where parents were accommodated. This gave a chance to parents of players and other spectators to watch all games. Total cash prize for this event was Rupees 2,00,000/-. In addition to this 65 trophies were distributed amongst the winners. Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde (MS Ortho, MP, Kalyan Loksabha) was the chief guest for the prize distribution. Cash Prizes were sponsored by Dr. Shrikant Shinde Foundation. Mr. Rahul Joshi (National Instructor & Assistant Coach), Mr. Abhijit Joshi (FIDE Instructor, FIDE Arbiter & Head Coach), Mr. Rupesh Sawant (National Instructor & Assistant Coach), and Mr. Bala Gawas, took great efforts to make this event successful. Master Ankur Gokhale and Master Bhavesh Karnik secured 25th & 35th place respectively in the same tournament. Both secured 6.5 points out of 9 games played. Both were awarded a cash prize of rupees 1,500/-.
- Master Ankur Gokhale secured 19th rank in “51st late. Shri Babukaka Shirgaokar, International Rating Open Chess Tournament” in Summer Chess Festival – 2018, conducted at Sangli, Maharashtra. Ankur was rewarded with a cash prize of rupees 2,000/-. He scored 7 points (5 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss) out of 10 games. Master Ayush Raj, Master Shaunak Dhamnaskar, Master Aditya Kaushal and Master Akhilesh Bhute achieved international rating inthe same tournament. Master Ajinkya Chitre, Master Aditya Ajay Patil and Master Samyak Mohapatra played well and enhanced their ELO rating in the same tournament. Ajinkya enhanced his rating from 1068 to 1156 (88 points). Aditya enhanced his rating from 1061 to 1127 (66 points). Samyak enhanced his rating from 1011 to 1053 (42 points). Players were accompanied and guided by Mr. Abhijit Joshi (FIDE Instructor, FIDE Arbiter & Head Coach) and Mr. Rahul Joshi (National Instructor & Assistant Coach). The tournament was organized by Nutan Buddhibal Mandal, Sangli, between 29th April to 4th May 2018. Around 200 players from different states participated in this event. Total prize fund for tournament was Rupees 2,00,000/-
- Master Ishaan Tendolkar secured 6th place in Late Shri Tammannacharya Padsalgikar – under – 8 years age group tournament, in Summer Chess Festival – 2018, conducted at Sangli, Maharashtra. Master Aarush Budjade secured 9th place, in the same tournament. Ishaan and Aarush both scored 5 points out of 7 games. The tournament was conducted between 5th May to 7th May 2018. In this group there were around 50 participants. Players were accompanied and guided by Mr. Rupesh Sawant (National Instructor & Assistant Coach)..
- Master Ankur Gokhale secured 4th rank (in 1501 to 1700 Rating Category) in “Bharatbai Halkunde Memorial 1st All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament”. Ankur was rewarded with a cash prize of rupees 6,000/-. He scored 7 points (5 wins, 4 draws and 1 loss) out of 10 games. Ankur also enhanced his rating from 1629 to 1668 (39 points). Master Adwait Dandekar achieved international rating inthe same tournament. The tournament was organized by Jayant Gokhale Chess Institute and conducted by Aryan’s Enterprises, between 5th to 10th May 2018 at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, Swargate, Pune. Around 450 players from different states participated in this event. Total prize fund for tournament was Rupees 6,00,001/-.
- National Instructor Mr. Rahul Joshi (Senior Trainer of the academy) enhanced his Elo Rating in “11th KIIT International Chess Festival 2018 (Category - "B" Open for rating below 1900)”. The tournament was jointly organized by All Odisha Chess Association & Kalinga Institute of Technology (KIIT), between 25th May to 28th May 2018 at International Chess Hall, Campus 15 B, KIIT University, Patia, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Around 480 players from different states participated in this event. Total cash prize for this tournament was Rupees 5,00,000/-.
- Master Jenil Shah secured 27th rank in 11th Mumbai Mayors Cup International Open Chess Tournament (Category - "B" Open for rating below 2000) 2018. He scored 7 points out of 10 games (6 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses). Jenil was rewarded with a cash prize of Rupees 11,000/-. The tournament was organized by Venus Chess Academy and conducted by Mumbai Subarban District Chess Association,, between 3rd to 6th June 2018 at Mount Litera School, Bandra – Kurla Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai. Around 370 players from different countries participated in this event. Total cash prize for this category was Rupees 11,00,000/-.
- Master Samyak Mohapatra, Master Ritesh Prajapati and Master Shaunak Dhamnaskar enhanced their ELO rating in 11th Mumbai Mayors Cup International Open Chess Tournament (Category - "C" Open for rating below 1600) 2018. Samyak enhanced his rating from 1053 to 1131 (78 points). Ritesh enhanced his rating from 1145 to 1174 (29 points). He scored 6 points out of 10 games (4 wins, 4 draws & 2 losses). The tournament was organized by Venus Chess Academy and conducted by Mumbai Subarban District Chess Association,, between 7th to 10th June 2018 at Mount Litera School, Bandra – Kurla Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai. Around 550 players from different countries participated in this event. Total cash prize for this category was Rupees 11,00,000/-.
- Mr. Rupesh Sawant, Mr. Pratik Rishbud, Mr. Sachin Rane & Mr. Pratik Agrawal (Coaches of Joshi's chess academy) & Mr. Bhavesh karnik (Senior player of Joshi's chess academy) achieved the title of State Arbiter. All of them attended the State Arbiter seminar held at Pune on 7th & 8th July 2018. Total 37 participants from different districts of Maharashtra participated in this seminar. All 5 participants of JOSHI'S CHESS ACADEMY passed the exam & were awarded the State Arbiter title. Mr. Bhavesh Karnik achieved 1st rank in the exam & Mr. Pratik Agrawal came 2nd. International Arbiter Mr. Nitin Shenvi and International Arbiter Mr. Anurag Singh were lecturers for the seminar.
- Mr. Abhijit Joshi (FIDE INSTRUCTOR, FIDE ARBITER & Main Trainer of Joshi's chess academy) enhanced his international rating by 8 points (from 1556 to 1564) in 1st Goa GM Open Chess tournament 2018 (Category - "B" Open for rating below 1999). The tournament was organized and conducted by Goa Chess Association, between 13th to 16th October 2018 at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Goa University, Taleigao, Goa. Master Ankur Gokhale also enhanced his international rating by 4 points (from 1624 to 1628) in the same tournament. Around 450 players from four countries participated in this event. Total cash prize for this category was Rupees 10,00,000/-.
- Master Ankur Gokhale secured 6th place in 1st Open Checkmate Rapid Chess tournament 2018. The tournament was organized by Famous Mithai Shop, Dombivali and conducted by Thane District Chess Association, on 2nd December 2018, at Shubh Mangal Hall, Station Road, Dombivli (E). Ankur was rewarded with a cash prize of rupees 1,000/-. He scored 6.5 points out of 8 games (6 wins, 1 Draw & 2 loss). In the same tournament, Master Samyak Thombare secured 3rd place in under 7 years age group. Master Ishaan Tendolkar & Master Varad Pandit secured 1st & 4th place respectively in under 8 years age group. Miss Shreyasi Halbe & Miss Vibha Navare secured 1st & 2nd place respectively in under 10 years girls group. Around 220 players from Thane District, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas participated in this event. Total cash prize for this tournament was Rupees 40,000/-.
- • The academy successfully organized '5th Intra Academy Age group Rapid chess tournament' on 16th Deceber 2018 (Sunday) at Sukur Residency Clubhouse, Kavesar, Ghodbunder Road, Thane (W). This tournament was open for four age groups i.e. under – 7, 9, 11, & Above 11 (upto 10th Standard). Total 230 participants from different batches of the academy participated in this event. Total cash prize for this tournament was Rupees 24,000/-. In addition to this 20 prizes (15 Open + 5 for Girls) were distributed in each group. So, total 80 prizes (60 Trophies + 20 Medals) were distributed. All the coaches, students and their parents took great efforts to makes this event successful.
- • Miss Shreyasi Halbe secured 1st place in Under 15 Girls Category, in CM Chashak Open Rapid Tournament 2018, held at Kandivali, on 23rd December 2018 (Sunday). Shreyasi was rewarded with a Trophy and a cash prize of Rupees 2,100/-.
- Mr. Rahul Joshi & Mr. Rupesh sawant (Both are NATIONAL INSTRUCTORs & Senior Trainers of Joshi's Chess Academy) & Mr. Sachin Rane (State Arbiter & Assistant trainer of Joshi's Chess Academy) & Mr. Bhavesh Karnik (State Arbiter & Senior Player of Joshi's chess academy) attended the FIDE ARBITER SEMENIAR Held at Hyderabad between 8th to 10th September, 2018. After successfully clearing the exams, they attained the title of Senior National Arbiter.After completing 3 norms (That is working as an Arbiter in 3 Rating tournaments) FIDE ARBITER Norm will be given to them.
