Achievements in 2016
- More than 100 prizes won by different students of Academy in various Open and Age Group competitions organized at various places in Thane, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas.
- Master Parth Dixit achieved international rating in "IIFL Wealth 1st Mumbai International Chess Tournament - 2016" Master Ankur Gokhale enhanced his ELO rating in the same tournament. Ankur enhanced his rating from 1576 to 1705 (129 points). The tournament was organized by Indian Chess School, between 28th February to 5th March 2016 at Mount Litera School, Bandra - Kurla Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai. Total cash prize for this event was Rupees 15,00,000/-.
- Master Siddharth Venkatesh secured 14th rank in Open Rapid Tournament. He scored 6.5 points out of 9 games. The tournament was organized by Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Dadar (W), Mumbai, on 14th February 2016. Around 150 players participated in this event. Siddharth won against Snehal Bhosale (International rating 2175), Intenational Master Sharad Tilak (International rating 2289) and Woman's International Master Bhagyashree Thipsay (International rating 2098). Siddharth took a draw against Mandar Sane (International rating 2031).
- Master Utkarsh Agiwal, Master Pranav Ruparel, and Master Ajinkya Chitre achieved international rating in "49th late. Shri Babukaka Shirgaokar, International Rating Open Chess Tournament" in Summer Chess Festival - 2016, conducted at Sangli, Maharashtra. Master Siddharth Kher, Master Aditya Bhide and Master Soham Kunte enhanced their ELO rating in the same tournament. Siddharth enhanced his rating from 1007 to 1083 (76 points). Aditya enhanced his rating from 1120 to 1150 (30 points) and Soham enhanced his rating from 1197 to 1213 (16 points). The tournament was conducted between 6th to 11th May 2016. 180 players from different states participated in this event. Total prize fund for tournament was Rs. 2,00,000/-.
- Master Jenil Shah secured 41st rank in 9th Mumbai Mayors Cup International Open Chess Tournament (Category - "B" Open for rating below 2000) 2016. He scored 6.5 points out of 10 games (6 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses). Jenil was rewarded with a cash prize of Rupees 5,500/-. The tournament was organized by Venus Chess Academy and conducted by Bombay Chess Association, between 2nd to 5th June 2016 at Mount Litera School, Bandra - Kurla Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai. Around 333 players from different states participated in this event. Total cash prize for this category was Rupees 8,00,000/-.
- Master Niranjan Herwadkar achieved international rating in "Kasinadhuni Rajya Laxmi Memorial, All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament - 2016". The tournament was conducted by Telangana State Chess Association, at Hyderabad, between 18th to 22nd June 2016. 250 players from different states participated in this event. Total prize fund for tournament was Rs. 2,00,000/-.
- Master Aditya Patil, Master Soham Kunte and Master Ankur Gokhale enhanced their ELO rating in G. H. Raisoni All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2016. Aditya enhanced his rating from 1356 to 1398 (42 points). Soham enhanced his rating from 1213 to 1254 (41 points) and Ankur enhanced his rating from 1635 to 1654 (19 points).The tournament was organized by PCA Chess Academy, Nagpur, between 28th June to 3rd July 2016 at Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies & Research, Deeksha Bhoomi, Nagpur. Around 300 players from different states participated in this event. Total cash prize for this tournament was Rupees 4,00,000/-.
- Mr. Abhijit Joshi (Head Coach of the academy) achieved the title of FIDE (World Chess Federation) Instructor in FIDE Trainer Seminar conducted at KIIT University, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, between 17th to 19th August 2016. This is helpful to enhance the standard of the academy. Thirty nine coaches from different states of India participated in this event. International Master Lanka Ravi (FIDE Senior Trainer & FIDE Arbiter) and International Master Sahu Sekhar Chandra (FIDE Senior Trainer) were appointed by FIDE as lecturers for this program. Mr. Abhijit Joshi is the first FIDE Instructor of Thane City.
- The academy successfully organized '2nd Intra Academy Age group Rapid chess tournament' on 2nd October 2016 (Sunday) at New Horizon Scholars School, Kavesar, Ghodbunder Road, Thane (W). This tournament was open for five age groups i.e. under - 6, 8, 10, 12 & 15 years. Total 275 participants from eleven batches and three schools (associated with academy for regular chess training during school hours) participated in this event. In each group 15 prizes (10 for Open + 5 special prizes for Girls) were distributed, so total 75 prizes (50 Trophies for Open + 25 Trophies for Girls) were distributed. A cash prize of rupees 3000/- (Rupees 600/- to winner of each category) was also given. In addition to this, each participant in below six years was given medal. Prizes were sponsored by Mr. Shyam Kapoor (Assistant Coach) and Mr. Shripad Gadre. Mr. Rahul Joshi (Assistant Coach), Mr. Rupesh Sawant (Assistant Coach) and Mr. Sachin Rane (Assistant Coach) took great efforts to makes this event successful.
- Master Soham Kunte enhanced his rating from 1254 to 1338 (84 points) in Maharashtra State Selection for Under 15 years (Open & Girls) age group at Orchid City International School (Ashirwad Bhavan), Amravati. The tournament was organized by Amravati Chess Association between 13th to 15th November 2016. Soham scored 6 points out of 9 games (5 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses). Around 180 players from different districts participated in Open category.
- 1st Kings of 64 Square Age Group Rapid Chess Tournament was successfully organized by the coaches of the academy, on 4th December 2016 (Sunday) at T.M.C. School No. 19, Vishnu Nagar, Naupada, Thane (W). This tornament was open for four age groups i.e. under -7, 9, 11, & Above 11 (upto 10th Standard). Around 430 participants from Thane District, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Alibag, Nashik, Pune, Aurangabad participated in this event. Total cash prize for this event was Rupees 50,000/- (Rupees 12,500/- in each group). In each group 15 prizes were distributed, so total 60 prizes were distributed. Mr. Sanjay More (Mayor of Thane) was the chief guest for the prize distribution. Prizes were sponsored by Mr. Milind Joshi in the memories of Late Shri M.D. Joshi (Ex - MLA) and Dr. Rajesh Madhvi. Mr. Bala Gawas, Mr. Rahul Joshi (Assistant Coach), Mr. Rupesh Sawant (Assistant Coach) and Mr. Sachin Rane (Assistant Coach) took great efforts to makes this event successful.
- Master Bhavesh Karnik secured 2nd rank in a rating category of 1401 to 1600 in Hyderabad Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2016. He scored 6 points out of 10 games (5 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses). Bhavesh enhanced his rating from 1530 to 1640 (110 points). He was rewarded with a trophy and a cash prize of Rupees 12,000/-. The tournament was organized by CZAR Academy of Chess and conducted by Telangana State Chess Association, between 20th to 25th December 2016 at Dharmareddy Gardens, Nagole, Hyderabad. Master Mayuresh Barve achieved international rating in the same tournament. He secured 4th rank in 'Best Unrated' category. Mayuresh was rewarded with a cash prize of Rupees 4,000/-. Around 210 players from different states participated in this event. Total cash prize for this category was Rupees 8,00,000/-.
- Master Soham Kunte secured 2nd prize in under 15 age group category, in 2nd RBK All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament. Soham enhanced his rating from 1338 to 1377 (33 points). He was rewarded with a trophy. He scored scored 6 points out of 10 games (5 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses). The tournament was organized by Institute for Chess Excellence and conducted by Mumbai Suburban District Chess Association, between 20th to 25th December 2016 at RBK International Academy, Chembur, Mumbai. Around 265 players from different states participated in this event. Total cash prize for this category was Rupees 3,00,000/-.
